Artist Statement

Hey, I’m Simone Sullivan. I think the world is a weird place and that’s why I make videos about it. It helps me deal with my “existential dread”. The world should be exposed and enjoyed for the silly, crazy place it is and I hope to create work that others can relate to, laugh at, or smoke weed and zone out to.
I grew up with three older brothers in Portland, OR where my dad worked as a carpenter and performed as a musician and my mom sometimes worked as a paralegal. I was always around a lot of music and basketball games and spent a lot of time talking to trees in the woods or watching movies with my brothers.
In 2010 I began studying film at California College of the Arts and have decided to continue my studies at Hunter College after some years working as an actor and exploring video making on my own. I hope to broaden my knowledge of editing skills and story telling as well as understand more about sound dynamics.

Some of my early influences include early Jim Carey movies, youtube videos like “shoes” and Old Greg, Wayne's World, Spinal Tap, Spongebob, Ren and Stimpy, and Joan Jett. More recently I’ve developed an interest in music videos and performance art like the work of Geneva Jaquzzi, Nina Hagen, and Seth Bogart.
